It’s been a bit of a slow week. Unfortunately I started to feel pretty sick Sunday evening and on Monday morning Valerie told me to stay home from school. I went off to the doctor who informed me I had the flu and should take the week off. As a result, between Monday and Saturday I have done little else than sleep and study the interior features of my room. Luckily, by Saturday evening I was feeling a lot better and we went to a 15 person dinner party with a few family friends of Valerie and Stephane. It turned out we were having “la raclette” for dinner. If you haven’t already noticed, the food and beverages in France are having a grand impression on me and Saturday evening was no different. La Raclette is a type of cheese that is specially designed to be melted in these special mini-grills. The molten cheese is then poured over tasty cold meats and vegetables. I can safely say that it has been my favourite meal so far during my stay. After trying out a few of the lovely french wines and beers they had on offer I was off to sleep for an early start the next morning (10am). When I did finally surface this morning (Sunday), Jeanne, Valerie and I were off on another adventure. Today we visited Chaux-Neuve for the Ski Jumping world cup as well as a 10km cross-country ski race. The landscape for the event was absolutely breathtaking and it was really cool to be able to get so close to these amazing athletes who could fly for over 100m off the end of a ramp with skis on. The cross country skiing also looked really fun despite it being extremely hard work. As it finished the top 3 positions in the cross country skiing were all Germans so the French spectators were a bit salty ;). Anyway, I had another great adventure and am feeling much better so will be heading off to school again next week, can’t wait to see what it holds!
